Cats & Kittens

Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet from East Lake Pet Orphanage!
Adoption is one of the most meaningful and rewarding decisions you will ever make.

Introduction & Overview

Thank you for your interest in adopting a Cat or Kitten from East Lake Pet Orphanage. Adoption is one of the most meaningful and rewarding decisions you will ever make. We work hard to make the best possible matches between people and pets for the mutual enrichment of life.

We also understand that sometimes unforeseeable situations occur. If, for any reason, an adoption is not successful, a pet may be brought back to us within 30 days, no questions asked. Please note that as a non-profit, the adoption fee is a non-refundable donation to our rescue. We feel strongly that if a match is not right for you, it won't be right for the pet either. As a no-kill shelter we remain committed to finding the best, permanent, loving homes for each pet. The one time adoption fee is $225.

All Adopted Cats & Kittens Receive the Best in Pre-Adoption Care:
East Lake provides comprehensive medical evaluations and the broadest immunization coverage for each pet in our care.
We go above and beyond to offer the highest level of medical care that many other rescues may not be equipped to provide. We are committed to meeting every pet's unique medical needs, which often require thousands of dollars in treatments for those with special needs. This extensive care ensures that each pet is given the best possible chance for a happy, healthy life.

Path to Adoption

-
Application Submission: The first step in your path to adoption is to submit an application. Even if an application is pending for a particular orphan, we encourage you to also submit your application since circumstances of a potential adopter may change, or we may determine that an alternative match for a pet may be more suitable.

-
Application Verification: The next step is the application verification which is initiated within 3 -7 days after submitting an application. Time to complete an application verification will vary depending on the response time of references. Applications are often simultaneously received on site, on line, and at events, so the adoption process is not strictly based on first come, first served.

-
Adoption Approval: Adoption matches are based on what is deemed best for both the adopter and the pet, and having complete, accurate, and verifiable information on the application. While date of application submission is given priority, it does not guarantee approval. When an application is approved, notification is received by email or phone.

-
Preparing for the "New Arrival": After an application has been approved, you will schedule a date to be united with your new pet. Prior to the adoption day, the following lists will help you to be prepared. To ensure your new pet can always be traced back to you if they become lost, we ask that you visit homeagain.com to update the microchip registration with your contact details. We will provide you with the microchip number, and the basic registration update is completely free of charge. Updating your contact information is a simple and crucial step as 90% of pets without proper identification, including registered microchips, are never returned home.
